Washington, D.C.  – A tragic shooting occurred this morning at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisc., near Milwaukee.  At least seven people died, including the gunman.  Interfaith Alliance President Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy issued the following statement on behalf of the board of directors and staff of the organization in response to this tragedy:

We extend our deepest sympathy toward the loved ones of those who lost their lives today in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, to the Sikh community in Wisconsin, and to all Sikh communities throughout the United States and the world.  We are saddened such senseless shootings and other tragic acts continue to occur not only in houses of worship but in other settings as well.  I pray the time will come when we can celebrate both our differences and what we share in common, for our nation is unique in its diversity, and it is a diversity that should be celebrated.
