The vast majority of religious Americans – 69 percent, according to a recent poll – support nondiscrimination protections that would protect gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in jobs, public accommodations, and housing.

New analysis of data collected by the Public Religion Research Institute’s American Values Atlas confirms that significant majorities of people of faith in red and purple states support these measures. Faith traditions approach sexual orientations and gender identities in many different ways and the First Amendment protects these communities from governmental interference in their religious doctrines. But we count on our elected representatives to protect the separation of religion and government and to act in the best interest of their constituents, whether they share our beliefs or not.

The #FaithfulMajority campaign is a project of the Faith For Equality Coalition, made up of 120+ religious groups that support the federal Equality Act and mobilize for LGBTQ+ dignity.

Personal Belief, Public Life

Interfaith Alliance is at the forefront of the movements to enshrine the federal Equality Act into law and combat LGBTQ+ bills in state houses across the country. From the steps of Capitol Hill to the hallways of our local schools, we advocate for policies that celebrate people of all identities and beliefs to ensure that all of us enjoy equal treatment under the law.
