Interfaith Alliance: DeSantis Migrant Stunt Betrays Our Sacred Values

WASHINGTON—In the wake of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ controversial decision to transport a group of Venezuelan immigrants to Massachusetts, advocates of inclusive religious freedom and human dignity are condemning the governor’s cruel stunt and lauding the efforts of local faith groups. The Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, president and CEO of Interfaith Alliance, released the following statement:

“Across the nation, Americans look to our elected officials to lead by example and demonstrate that despite our differences, we are united by a shared obligation to care for our neighbors. Governor DeSantis, who in recent days has made a call to put on ‘the armor of God’ to resist political opponents, has shown callous disregard for the lives of dozens of immigrants and betrayed the sacred values that each person is made in the image of God and worthy of respect and dignity.

“Fortunately, local faith groups that sprang into action to give sanctuary to the victims of this stunt offer an example and are a reminder that Americans of all faiths and none believe in a humane, inclusive vision for America.”
