Last week, Interfaith Alliance attended the press conference marking the House introduction of the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act.

This legislation would repeal the federal tax credit voucher program included in H.R.1, an unprecedented program passed into law last year that will redirect federal taxpayer dollars to private and often religious schools, blurring the critical line between church and state. A companion Senate version of the Keep Funds in Public Schools Act, led by Senators Mark Kelly and Mazie Hirono, was introduced earlier this spring.

Interfaith Alliance has long opposed voucher programs as an assault on both public education and religious freedom. These programs are part of a coordinated effort to defund public schools and funnel resources toward private institutions open to only a select few, institutions that  can and sadly often do discriminate against students on the basis of religion, race, and disability. Public schools are available to all students to protect the free exercise of religion for all students, and we must make every effort to protect them.

Tell your Member of Congress to pass the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act today.

We are proud to stand with the National Coalition of Public Schools (NCPE) and our partners in Congress in calling for the swift passage of this legislation. Public schools belong to all of us. Taxpayer dollars should stay there.

The Hearing That Should Have Never Happened

Earlier this month, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts held an anti-Muslim hearing. The empty seats beside Senator Cruz said more than any member's presence could have: this hearing never should have been rescheduled.
