Executive Order 14201: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports

Date Signed: February 5, 2025

Key Provisions:

  • Executive Order 14201 establishes that the federal government opposes transgender women participating in sports and claims that their involvement fosters a “demeaning, unfair, and dangerous” environment for women and girls
  • The federal government will rescind all funds to institutions that allow transgender women to compete in sports, claiming that “ignoring fundamental biological truths between the two sexes deprives women and girls of meaningful access to educational facilities,” and violates Title IX protections
  • The Secretary of State will promote these policies at the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee to ensure sports are divided by the sex determined at birth, disregarding testosterone reduction and gender identity
  • The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security will review and adjust policies allowing transgender women to travel to the United States to participate in women’s sports and shall issue guidance to prevent their entry

Interfaith Alliance Counterpoints:

  • Interfaith Alliance is dedicated to defending the dignity, rights, and safety of the LGBTQ+ community, including trans Americans.
  • Interfaith Alliance is deeply concerned with Trump’s attempts to alienate, vilify, and exclude transgender people. Revoking federal funds to organizations that uphold the inherent value of trans athletes under the guise of Title IX threatens the foundational principles of inclusion and equal opportunity in educational institutions. We stand against policies that seek to marginalize any group of students and reaffirms our commitment to advocating for the rights of transgender individuals in every sphere of life.
  • Many faith-based higher education institutions uphold the dignity of transgender students and we cannot let the government infringe on their religious freedom.
  • Executive Order 14201 represents a dangerous step backward in our long-standing fight against efforts that undermine the dignity of LGBTQ individuals. We are steadfast in our commitment to standing with transgender people in every arena of life, including sports, and will tirelessly advocate for policies that affirm their rights, dignity, and humanity.

Mahmoud Khalil’s deportation case has alarming implications

Earlier this year, during the holy month of Ramadan, ICE agents followed Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil home after he broke his fast and forcibly detained him without a warrant. Khalil, a Palestinian activist, was then disappeared into an unmarked vehicle and taken to an unknown location as his pregnant wife watched and pleaded for information. It was later revealed that Khalil had been moved to a detention center in Jena, Louisiana, where he faced deportation. He was held for over three months in poor conditions, missing his graduation and the birth of his first child.

True Religious Freedom Means Protecting Our Faith Leaders, Not Detaining Them

In early July, Ayman Soliman, a former Cincinnati Children’s Hospital chaplain, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his asylum status was terminated in June. In response, local faith leaders organized a prayer vigil, rally, and peaceful march; during the march at least 15 protesters were detained by local police and charged with felony rioting.

What Project 2025 Tells Us the Trump Administration Will do Next to Limit Access to Reproductive Healthcare

Project 2025 is a federal policy blueprint published in 2023 by then-former Trump administration officials and far right policy professionals, organized by The Heritage Foundation. The 920-page document outlines a detailed policy agenda designed to establish an authoritarian government while curbing civil rights protections. In particular, it is interested in restricting access to abortions and other forms of reproductive healthcare.
