Interfaith Alliance Launches 15-State “The Vote Is Sacred Tour” for  2026 Midterms

Nonpartisan bus tour will mobilize faith voters, promote election protection and prepare faith communities for potential election crises

Interfaith Alliance, a national leader in defending religious freedom and multi-faith democracy, today announced the return of “The Vote Is Sacred” tour, a national nonpartisan bus tour mobilizing faith communities ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The unique tour will travel through 15 states across October and November, significantly expanding on a six-state, nine-day tour organized by Interfaith Alliance in 2024. It will officially launch Oct. 6 in Omaha, Nebraska, following a special preview event in Kansas City, Missouri on Oct. 5.

At each stop along the route, Interfaith Alliance is partnering with local faith groups and diverse religious leaders on nonpartisan get out the vote activities and training local faith communities about election interference threats coming from the Trump administration. The route was shaped by the nonpartisan Voting Rights Lab’s new election-risk map, allowing the tour to support local communities where threats to free and fair elections are the greatest.

“The Vote Is  Sacred Tour” is part of a broader national campaign to support local organizations and equip faith communities to respond to potential election crises. Interfaith Alliance is in the midst of a six-week national training program and recently gathered local and national faith leaders for a mock election crisis response exercise. We have also pledged $200,000 in grants to support local faith-based election protection activities this year.

“Our democracy is at a crossroads, and the sacred right to vote is very much on the line,” said Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, President and CEO of Interfaith Alliance. “At a time when free and fair elections are under threat and anti-democratic forces seek to weaponize religion for their own harmful ends, faith communities can play a vital role in helping their neighbors defend our elections and the democratic process. Through this tour, we are bringing together diverse faith communities and inspiring local leaders to affirm that democracy belongs to all of us.”

The name of the campaign was inspired by the late Representative, civil rights icon and Baptist minister John Lewis, who said "The vote is precious, almost sacred."
