Joey has been involved in organizing and advocacy work since high school, where they worked with community leaders to build inclusive spaces, particularly for queer youth in the area. After moving from outside Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, D.C. to attend American University, their organizing continued as she shifted her focus to labor and tenant’s rights, going on to be the Director of the AU chapter of Young Democratic Socialists of America. As the Events Coordinator for the AU chapter of March for Our Lives, Joey also led the successful campaign to keep AU’s campus police unarmed as the university explored arming them.
In addition to working with Interfaith Alliance, Joey works in housing and economic development advocacy, focused on DC issues, with The Coalition. Prior to this work, they worked in the political consulting sphere, raising funds for progressive leaders and nonprofits, as well as in advocacy for policy issues related to tax reform and corporate accountability, advocating for an economy that works for working-class people.
Finally, Joey received her BA in Political Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies from AU in three years, which has deeply informed her work on the intersection of economic, racial, and gender justice. She is currently completing an accelerated master’s program to receive their MA in Political Science in May 2026, specializing in American Politics.
